Alex Aldous

Alex Aldous DipM MCIM
Alex Aldous is a senior marketing professional with over 16 years experience in the construction industry, having worked for SME, PLC and private organisations. She brings a wealth of experience of leading successful, complex marketing, communications and change programmes in the built environment sector.
As Global Head of Marketing and Communications at construction consultancy Gleeds, with nearly 3000 employees and turnover of £250m, Alex leads on strategy, brand and leadership communications, as well as leading a central team supported by a Global network of marketing and communications professionals. In her previous role she led complex organisational change and marketing operations at Mace, a £2bn turnover construction firm.
Her work at Kier, supporting areas of the business in their strategy and planning and managing Group wide change projects, was recognised with the CMA’s best contractor marketing campaign for their Shaping Your World campaign in 2017, encouraging young people to consider a career in the construction industry.
Whilst in 2022 her leadership of Mace’s purpose and priorities business change programme was recognised with the CMA’s best professional services marketing campaign, and highly commended in best stakeholder / internal communications campaign. Alex also led on a culture change piece, embedding values and behaviours across the 7500 strong firm.
Alex can demonstrate her experience leading teams of volunteers and in maintaining the highest standards of inclusive, professional etiquette and performance. She also co-led on the Mace marketing and communications emerging talent portfolio, mentoring and developing graduates and apprentices across the functions.
A Chartered Marketeer and a professional member of CIM, Alex’s skills lie in project and change management, consultancy and leadership, and she thrives on helping others to grow their career in the industry.
Outside of work she is a mum to three young children, and two older step-children.

Catherine is currently Divisional Marketing Director for Construction Product Manufacturer Genuit Group’s Building Services and International Division. Having spent 10+ years in marketing within Construction Product Manufacturers, overseeing product management, marketing communications and digital strategies.
Catherine was Deputy Chair of CPA’s Marketing Integrity Group and was integral to the development and articulation of the Code for Construction Product Information. She now sits on the Board of CPI LTD and continues her passion for raising competency in marketing through shared knowledge and collaboration.

Charlotte has over two decades of communications experience, with the last 10 years focused on PR and content marketing for organisations operating in the built environment. She is passionate about this exciting sector and, in particular, how to support growing businesses to be more visible, stand out from their competition and show prospects they are their best choice.
Charlotte believes that supporting construction businesses with their communications is key to ensuring these vital contributors to society’s safety and wellbeing get the recognition they deserve, and to encouraging people to choose to work in a sector that is as enjoyable as it is fascinating.
As a founder of Morton Waters, Charlotte collaborates closely with business leaders to enhance their understanding of the pivotal role marketing plays in achieving their short- and long-term business objectives.
Charlotte is also a judge of the construction entries of the Kent Business Awards.
Lori Smith

Lori is a marketing professional with over 10 years experience. A Chartered Marketer and Associate member of CIM, Lori currently works at McLaughlin & Harvey, a privately owned construction and civil engineering business that has operated for over 170 years. Her role as Marketing Manager involves leading marketing activity for projects across the length and breadth of the UK. In 2024, she played an integral part in the company's rebrand and development of a new online identity.
Lori enjoys building relationships both internally and externally, listening to the needs of each stakeholder and collaborating to find a solution. She is passionate about communicating the importance of marketing in the built environment sector and encouraging others to consider the sector as part of their marketing career path.

Karen Mensah is an established marketing professional with over 15 years of experience in Real Estate, specializing in complex roles across Residential, Commercial & Flex offices as well as retail delivering strategic marketing, brand awareness, digital strategies and customer experience.
Committed to creating and managing people-centric spaces for living and working, Karen is passionate about creating customer-centric campaigns which are integrated across leasing and marketing campaigns, tenant and stakeholder engagement, asset experience and operations, as well as corporate communications.
As a real estate marketing and brand strategist, she is focused on driving customer engagement through differentiated asset and brand experiences, growth strategies and multi-channel communications.
Outside of her professional capacity, Karen volunteers with her local charity Sue Ryder, who provide end of life care and grief counselling across the UK.

I’m a Chartered Marketer with over 16 years’ experience, particularly in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) sectors. I currently work for a structural and civil engineering company, Narro, an employee-owned practice with 6 offices around Scotland and North East England. This role gives me an insight and experience applicable to the Construction Industry Group. Within my role, I’m responsible for all aspects of the marketing mix.
Previous roles have included scientific and software companies, so I feel I have developed great communication skills, particularly with distilling complex information into messaging appropriate for different target audiences and channels.
With a scientific background, I am also highly analytical and logical, with a strong focus on delivering performance evaluation and reporting. I’ve also recently gained project management skills to enhance this.

With five years’ experience in construction, I have gained a strong understanding of the sector challenges particularly those facing the housing sector.
I have managed several successful campaigns across various channels, enhancing brand visibility and driving client engagement. My role extends to cultivating strategic partnerships and fostering client relationships.
As a Board Member for Women in Social Housing (WISH), I am passionate about driving positive change in the industry and supporting women in their careers through mentorship, training, and networking.
