An end to gritting?

Scientists are developing under-road heating technology that will melt ice and snow. Snowless, the new heating system, uses metal ribbons embedded in the asphalt through which an electric current is passed. The technology, which is being tested in Denmark and the Netherlands, could put an end to the need for gritting.
