Architects sense recovery

The RIBA Future Trends Workload Index has risen to +3 in July, from –17 in June, after spending the previous three months in negative territory.

The survey measures architects' sense of their future work, and is an early indicator of potential growth. The latest numbers mean around a third of practices anticipate their workload growing. At the same time 42% expect workload to remain the same while 28% expect a decrease.

The survey suggests private housing is likely to rise significantly while the commercial sector should contract further, although slowing the decline.
